DLA Information

Historically there used to be two types of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), one for and another for children. This has changed recently and now Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has replaced the adult DLA scheme. This means if you are ages between 16 and 64 (adults) you wont be able to apply for Disability Living Allowance. Instead you would need to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) instead. The DLA benefits for children under 16 are still in place and you can apply for this like normal.

Both PIP and DLA are benefits desiged to provide financial support to help cover the extra costs incurred due to long term ill-health or disability.

You may be able to claim anything from £22 to £141.10 per week through PIP if you are aged 16 to 64. The amount will very and is based on how your specific condition or disability effects you, rather than it being a fixed rate for a condition and will be assessed as part of your application.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) remains in place for children under 16 years old who have certain conditions. DLA can help with the extra costs of looking after a child who is under 16 and has difficulties walking or needs much more looking after than a child of the same age who doesn’t have a disability. The child will also need to meet all the eligibility requirements.

As with PIP, the amount you could be entitled to via the DLA scheme is between £22 and £141.10 a week and depends on the level of help the child needs.

When you call the DLA phone number or the PIP phone number you can:
